The Saguaro Cactus has evolved an interesting method of surviving a long time without rain/water. The cactus has evolves a thick, hollow stem it uses to hold large amounts of water. It also has spikes that stick into whoever tries to eat it.
Here is the aloe plant. The aloe plant has a waxy covering on the outside to retain moisture and water. Inside the leaves of the aloe plant is a sticky, clear, thick substance that,when applied, soothes itchyness on bug bites and rashes.

The Yucca plant is a large, flowery plant that has leaves with spikes on the end, similar to the Aloe plant. It also provides as a sustainable food source for the mammals.
This is the Ocotillo plant. This interesting organisim sheds its leaves during a drought to minimize transpirattion. The stems are covered with a thick, water resistant cuticle. Also, within 48 hours of rain it will sprout leaves to maximize sunlight intake.
